our story
Bent Beef Reserve products originate on our family-owned farm located in the Arkansas Valley of southeastern Colorado. Originally operated by Malloy and Hattie Hemphill in the early 1930s, the Hemphill Family has been producing food on this soil in eastern Bent County for 90 years and with our generation involved for more than 20. Our multi-generational operation utilizes a balanced grazing approach that includes short-grass prairie for summer grazing and cropland for winter foraging resulting in premium Colorado-grown beef.

In 2024, our oldest daughter Avery took over operations of our beef sales as her FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience through the McClave FFA Program. She adds energy and creativity to the business.
our herd
Our Black Angus-based cow herd has been selected using decades of data collection to offer superior beef products raised efficiently and ethically. Black Angus cattle are renowned for their environmental adaptability, maternal disposition, and meat quality. We utilize data on expected progeny differences (EPDs) when selecting sires to balance phenotype, growth, maternal traits, and carcass quality. Our beef is all-natural, pasture-raised, antibiotic free with no added hormones, and finished on grain and roughage grown right here on our farm.
100% Colorado from start to finish
our land
Located in the arid landscape of the Great High Plains, our farming operation relies on the precious flows of the Arkansas River for irrigation of our crops. Our cropland is devoted to the production of alfalfa, corn, sorghum, oats, and wheat for consumption through our own cow herd or sales to other beef and dairy producers. All of our irrigated cropland is grazed during the winter and early spring months as a method to efficiently manage crop residue and recycle nutrients. During the remainder of the year, our cattle graze the native short-grass prairies of our pastures in Bent County.
Thank you for your interest in our beef and family farm.
